DATADOG INTERACTIVE UPDATE
Hi,
Swishing Listerine and visiting the dentist won’t prevent it... Understanding how to deal with list decay is vital in keeping your deliverability and response rates high.
Email addresses are fluid and constantly changing. Read the Q & A below to understand how Data Dog keeps your list minty fresh.

Johnathan Crawford
__________________________________________ Q: When I receive my reporting I noticed some of the email addresses on our list are listed as “held.” What does this mean?
Technical Answer: The deployment system automatically maintains the integrity of the lists in the database. When we send a deployment and a message fails, the bounce is labeled based on the type of SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) error. When an address hits a designated pre-set amount of bounces it is labeled as "held." Even if you do not receive membership status monthly reporting this process consistently occurs on ALL our client lists.
Interpretation: Data Dog has an automated process to help prevent your list from getting dirty. When people change jobs, ISPs, and email providers their addresses are no longer valid. After a certain amount of rejection notices those people are simply listed as “held” and no longer receive email.

Q: Why would I want to stop sending to anyone from my list?

Keeping your list clean will not only improve your deliverability, but also your response rate. People with bad addresses don’t read your articles or buy your products so they bring your statistics down.
